BYLI qualifies for Angat Buhay Youth Summit, directors almost made it
Official representatives of the Borres Youth Leadership Institute, Inc., Directors Kristine Joy Sauler and Aldren Fuentes almost made it to the Top 10 when BYLI’s project proposal for the Angat Buhay Youth Summit made it to the Top 20 during the preliminaries out of the 50 youth organizations that qualified for the summit nationwide.
Last August 14-15, 2017 at the Microtel by Wyndham Hotel, Sauler and Fuentes presented BYLI’s “Self-Help Center Project” proposal, which aims to organize a youth-coordinating council in Sitio Guise, the farthest of the twelve (12) sitios of Dulangan, Pilar, Capiz, where education, health, social mobilization and livelihood are of major concerns.
The youth-coordinating council is supposed to function as a body of active role players in addressing the concerns and needs of the community. It focuses on developing a sense of initiative and responsiveness among the youth of Sitio Guise, capacitating them to provide solutions to their own problems.
Unable to make it to the Top 10, BYLI considers they are fortunate to have been chosen to present their proposal in the national level on their first attempt. According to Fuentes, there were over 200 project proposals submitted nationwide, of which only 50 were given the opportunity to advance to the national level.
The Angat Buhay Youth Summit is an initiative of the Office of the Vice President of the Philippines, with the help of Kaya Natin Organization, Millenials PH, Siklab Philippines and San Miguel Corporation to help ten organizations carry out their projects through the twenty-five thousand (Php 25,000) grant. These projects will also help achieve the goal of the Angat Buhay program to improve the lives of the Filipinos living below the poverty line.
As a youth organization committed to making the country a great nation, BYLI will continue to support and participate on programs such as this and will continue to transform and empower the youth who will carry out social responsibilities towards the achievement of this goal.
